Black Jack or Twenty-One (21) is played with a standard deck of 52 cards with 2 decks being used in the shoe. The object of the game Blackjack is to get as close to 21 as possible, having a higher hand without going over 21.
The King, Queen and Jack count as ten while other cards count at face value, except for the Ace, which counts 1 or 11, as desired by the player. The suits are of no significance.
When the game begins , the player receive two cards. The 2nd card of the dealer is dealt face up. If a player has any ten-valued card and an Ace, this is called Blackjack and will turn up the cards immediately. The players hand is paid "one and a half" times the wager, But, if the dealer has "Blackjack" too, it is a push and neither wins. If the dealer's face up card is an Ace, the players have the opportunity to take "insurance". An insurance bet is a wager claiming that the dealer does in fact have a blackjack. This is an optional bet and may be half of the original bet. If the dealer has a blackjack, the winning insurance wager will be paid 2 to 1. The player loses the first bet, unless they also have a blackjack, in that case they can push with the dealer. If the dealer doesn't have BlackJack, the insurance wager will lose and play will continue.
Whenever the dealer doesn't have Blackjack, the players have the opportunity to improve their hands, They can take additional cards (to hit). A player can hit as many times as desired, as long as the total count of the hand doesn't exceed Twenty-One.
With 2 cards in any given hand, the player can "Double Down" which is to increase the wager by the first wager (original) and can take 1 card only.
The players can split cards (pairs) only once and play each hand out for the same wager per hand. When splitting Aces, if a 10 or face card appears it will only pay 1:1 (because it is no longer a blackjack).
Once the players have completed their hands, the dealer's hand will be played. Whether the dealer "hits" or "stands" depends upon the count of the dealer's hand (there are no optional situations). The dealer turns his bottom card up and either stands or draws as necessary.
The dealer must draw to any count up to and including 16 and stand on 17. The dealer will also stand on all soft 17's. (SOFT 17's are: Any combination in which and Ace is used as an 11). The dealer should "BUST"(the cards total 22 or higher); all those hands remaining, which are not busted will be paid even money.
